V, J and L shaped chromosome occur in anaphase. This is the best stage to study the shapes of chromosomes. In anaphasic movement of chromosomes, the centromeres lead the path while the limbs trail behind. As a result, the anaphasic chromosomes appear V, L, J and I shaped. The shapes are formed as given below-
V - metacentric
L - submetacentric
J - acrocentric
I - telocentric

During metaphase, the morphology of chromosome is best studied.
